Terms of service

Terms of Service

Effective October 28, 2026

These terms apply whenever you request a quote, send us a device, approve work, or buy from WoodBaked Games ("we", "us"). They work together with our Payment Policy and Software Policy, which are part of these terms.

1. Agreeing to these terms

You agree to these terms when you do any of the following: tick the box on our quote form, approve a quote in writing (email or text counts), pay a deposit, invoice or payment link, or send or drop off a device. If you don't agree, please don't use our services.

2. Quotes and approval

  • Every job starts with a written quote listing the work, parts, price and estimated turnaround. Quotes are valid for 30 days.
  • Work starts only after you approve the quote and pay the deposit. Your written approval and payment together confirm the order.
  • If we find something on the bench that changes the price or the work, we contact you first. Nothing extra is done or charged without your written OK.
  • Turnaround times are estimates. Parts delays happen, and we'll keep you updated.

3. Payment

Deposits, balances, refunds and returns work as described in our Payment Policy. In short: a parts deposit is due before work starts, the balance is due before your device ships back or is picked up, and shop units are paid in full before they ship. Finished devices aren't released until they're paid for.

4. Your device

  • Its condition when it arrives. We photograph and note the condition of every device we receive. Vintage hardware often has hidden wear, corrosion or earlier repairs. We aren't responsible for faults that were there before we got it, or that show up in parts we didn't work on.
  • Repair risk. Opening and working on decades-old electronics carries some risk. Plastic can be brittle, ribbon cables fragile and boards fatigued. We work carefully, and if we damage something through our own mistake, we'll repair or replace it at our cost.
  • Game save data isn't guaranteed. We can't guarantee that game saves or other data will survive any repair, mod, cleaning or software setup. Saves on cartridges (especially ones with a save battery), memory cards and internal storage can be lost during battery swaps, recaps, firmware work or simply from opening an old device. Back up anything you want to keep before sending it. We'll try to keep your saves when we can, but we aren't responsible for lost save data.
  • You own it. By sending us a device, you confirm it's yours or you have the owner's permission.

5. Shipping

  • You're responsible for packing your device safely and for its shipping to us. We recommend insurance and tracking.
  • We ship return packages and shop orders insured, with tracking, to the address you give us. Higher-value orders need a signature. An order counts as delivered when the carrier's tracking says so.
  • If a package arrives damaged, keep the box and packing and contact us within 7 days of delivery so we can file an insurance claim.

6. Software and games

We install only open-source, homebrew or licensed software, as described in our Software Policy. You're responsible for making sure any game backups on your device come from games you legally own. We don't sell, download or supply commercial games.

7. Shop purchases

  • Shop units are sold as described and pictured on their listing. Photos are of the actual unit unless the listing says otherwise.
  • Returns and problems on arrival are handled as described in our Payment Policy.

8. Workmanship guarantee

Our work and the parts we install are guaranteed for 90 days, as described in our Payment Policy. This guarantee is your remedy for problems with our work. It doesn't cover drops, liquid damage, normal wear, original parts we didn't work on, or devices opened or modified by anyone else after we return them.

9. Payment disputes and chargebacks

  • If you have a problem with a charge or with our work, contact us first at [email protected]. We'll respond within 2 business days and work with you on a repair, replacement or refund under these terms.
  • You agree not to file a chargeback or payment dispute for work you approved and received, or for an item that was delivered as described, without first giving us a chance to resolve it.
  • If you do file a dispute, we'll give your card issuer or payment processor our records of the transaction. These include your quote request, your written approval, these terms, invoices and receipts, before-and-after photos and video, communications, and shipping tracking and delivery confirmation.
  • While a dispute is open, we may hold any of your devices or orders still in our care until it's resolved.
  • If a dispute is decided in our favor, or you withdraw it, any amount still owed remains due. If a chargeback is filed for work or items you received, you're responsible for the amount owed plus any dispute fees our payment processor charges us.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any job or purchase is limited to the amount you paid us for it. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost save data, lost collectible value or the cost of a replacement console beyond that amount. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can't be waived.

11. Unclaimed devices

If a finished device isn't paid for and collected, our Payment Policy explains what happens after 30 and 90 days.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version in effect on the day you approved your quote or placed your order is the one that applies to that job. The effective date is at the top of this page.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of Ohio, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
